Five Winter League Champions crowned Tuesday night
Men's D1 - Bombers stole lead & championship late after We R One's comeback, 53-52
The Bombers let a late lead slip away before a steal and a layup helped them regain a one-point lead in the closing minute. It took one last stand, and We R One got three attempts in the final possession, but the Bombers stood tall and claimed their 2nd championship in dramatic fashion, 53-52. Jason Wansley led the Bombers (11-1) with 13 points & Torin Holmes added 12. We R One was a two-man show, including Paul Finn's game-high 25 points and Brandon Rozzell's 15. Finn did most of his damage in the 1st half, while Rozzell did his work late to bring We R One (10-2) back & give them a two-point edge before the final possessions unfolded.
Men's D2 - Celtics claimed back-to-back titles in 75-53 rout of 7 or 7
While 7 or 7 had a strong regular season and a nice playoff run, the Celtics proved why they are the class of the division, cruising to their 2nd straight championship with an emphatic 75-53 victory. Phillip Pandak poured in a game-high 33 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Celtics (11-1), who also got 19 from Jonathan Baker. 7 or 7 (10-2) got 28 points from Adam Desgain & 13 from Matt Campfield, but the game slipped away from their early in the second half.
Men's D3 - Grind Time dominant in their 2nd chance in finals, 61-30, over Team RamRod
Grind Time made it to the finals last season but took an ugly defeat there. This time, it was their turn to dish out the punishment, as they won their title by routing Team RamRod, 61-30. Darius Green (game-high 16 points) & Aaron Wilson (14) combined for 30 points to carry the Grind Time (9-3) offense. RamRod (8-4) got 11 points from Dominic Barrett, but they were never in this one.
Men's 30+ - Midnight Express pulled away late for a 64-44 title victory over Grocholski
Grocholski was right there, hanging around in a two-possession game for most of the night, but top-seeded Midnight Express used a late surge to run away & claim the inaugural 30+ championship, 64-44. Creighton Anders & Chris Jones led the way for Midnight Express (9-1) with 14 points apiece, while Wallace Inge added 11 & Todd Hoyle netted 10. Grocholski (6-4) got 16 points from Ralph Wyatt & 11 from Justin Page.
CoEd - Bunch of Randoms jumped on the Titans early and rolled to title, 58-43
The Bunch of Randoms jumped on the Titans early, and the Titans offense was inept all night, as the Randoms rolled their way to a 58-43 championship win. The Randoms (7-4) built a 22-point halftime lead and never looked back, as they got 16 points from Jermaine Carter, 11 from Terrance Cason & 10 from Edward Shearn. The Titans (6-4) struggled mightily without leading scorer Alix Barnette, as they managed just 13 first-half points. Ryan Martin had 14 points & Earl Dyer netted 10 in the Titans' loss.
