FOUR FALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS CROWNED
Men's D1 - Team X broke away late in a tight game to outlast the Bombers, 61-55
The two teams traded blows back and forth, exchanging the lead repeatedly, until Team X took control in the closing minutes and held off the Bombers, 61-55. Brian Gunn hit the big shots for Team X and led them with 16 points. Jahari Mincey added 13 points & Chaz Green chipped in 12 for Team X, who finished 10-1 & took the title in their first VAIL season. Jason Wansley & Davven Miller kept the Bombers in it with 20 and 18 points, respectively, but another strong season fell just short for them.
Men's D2 - Celtics outshot All Day, dealt them first loss in 62-53 victory
The pace & style of the game was played more to the liking of All Day, but the Celtics got hot from the outside in typical fashion, & their defense helped carry them to a 62-53 championship win. The league's leading scorer, Phillip Pandak, came through in a big way with a game-high 22 points. Stephen Biggs netted 15 & Bobby Foley finished with 11, including a number of big shots in the 2nd half for the Celtics. Jon Hurd scored 14 points & Marshall Tucker chipped in 11 for All Day, but it wasn't enough to prevent their first loss & the end to a perfect season.
Men' D3 - Team Dynamic was dominant early, often in impressive 56-33 win over Grind Time
Team Dynamic built a 15-point halftime lead and, like they did most of the season, cruised to the finish line, 56-33, over Grind Time. Charles Reid hit six 3's en route to his game-high 18 points, while Shaqvhan Hunter & Xavier Carlyle chipped in eight apiece in the win. Team Dynamic finished 11-0 & clinched their first championship in dominant fashion. Jabari Cox paced Grind Time with eight points, as they struggled mightily to find any offense without their leading scorer, Sean Armstrong, absent.
Women's - Falcons pulled away in second half to turn back the VBallers, 58-47
The Falcons got 34 combined points from April Robinson & Barvenia Cherry, and they won their 3rd straight title, knocking off the VBallers, 58-47. Robinson finished with 20 points & Cherry had 14 for the Falcons, who defeated the VBallers for the fourth time this season. The short-handed VBallers, playing with just four players, fought hard and even held a small lead at the half. Ebony Moore led all scorers with 23 points & Crystal Williams added 14, but the undermanned roster eventually ran out of gas in the second half.
