WEEK 6 RECAPS
MEN'S A LEAGUE - EASTERN CONFERENCE CAP CITY BALLERS 57, VILLAGE CAFÉ 47 Cap City clamped down defensively and remained unbeaten by defeating yet another top team in the league, Village Café, with a 57-47 win. Brian Henderson controlled the game and led all scorers with 17 points, while Matt Coward added 14 and Hassan Robinson chipped in 13. Pat Gill (five three's) and Marcus Jenkins paced Village Café with 15 points apiece. Box Score OLD SKOOL 73, NEW BREED 72 Old Skool built a ten-point halftime lead, and then had to hold on to win a back-and-forth thriller, 73-72 over New Breed. Trai Harris led Old Skool with 18 points, while the Murrer brothers - Matt scored 17 points and Steve added 14 - came up big inside to match the size of New Breed. Avis Wyatt led the New Breed attack with 16 points. Brian Henderson (14 points), Terrance Brackett (14), and Shawn Harris (12) were all in double figures in the loss. Box Score TEAM AMERICA 52, NAPALM 46/2OT It took two overtimes to finally determine a winner in this one, and Team America got the job done with a 52-46 win. Stephen Biggs led all scorers with 26, scoring half of Team America's points. Team America trailed by two with six seconds left in the 1st OT when Jaron Dandridge put in the tying bucket. They carried that momentum into the 2nd OT and, after a big three from Tyler McNally, held on for the six-point victory. Eric Carter and Derek Baylor scored 11 apiece to lead Napalm, who suffered yet another tough loss. Box Score THE NATURALS 67, FUNKY TOWN 59 The Naturals were able to find themselves back in the winner's circle by keeping Funky Town winless, earning a 67-59 victory. The Naturals' balanced scoring attack was led by Drew Faggart's 16 points. Drew Breidenbaugh (13), Quentin Merritt (12), Mike Linsey (10) and Derek Mitchell (10) were also in double figures. Jeremy Dixon led all scorers with 20 points and Reid Klotz added 17 for Funky Town, but they were never able to get closer than five points. Box Score
MEN'S A - WESTERN CONFERENCE TEAM RICHMOND 58, ICOS 49 Team Richmond faced their toughest opponent to date in this early season, and they stayed unbeaten by controlling the game and earning a hard-fought 58-49 win. Reid Augst led all scorers with 18 points, while Brett James and Reagan McNeer added 15 apiece in the win. For ICOS, 15 points from Kevin Mayo and 10 each from Alphonzo Taylor and Tarik Wallace weren't enough on this night. Box Score HEROES 98, THE UNTOUCHABLES 61 The Heroes had no trouble disposing of an Untouchable squad with only four players, easily rolling to a 98-61 win. Everyone got in the scoring act for the Heroes, led by Charlie Boyd's 28 points. Ralph Wyatt scored 24 points inside and Ryan Gibbs hit five three's en route to 20 points. For the Untouchables, James Bennett led the way with 21 points, Seth Dickey added 19, and Todd Crown scored 17, but they had little hope while playing a man down. Box Score DRT GROUP 84, HIGH RISERS 54 To say DRT Group got off to a fast start is an understatement: the score was 21-0 before the High Risers knew what hit them. To their credit, the High Risers did cut the lead to eight late in the half, but DRT blew it wide open again and cruised to an 84-54 win. Redd Thompson dropped 21 points to lead DRT Group, who also got 19 from Drew Maples and 17 from Manny Harris. Brian Gunn led all scorers with 23 points in a losing effort for the High Risers. Box Score CITYWIDE BALLERS 48, BOONDOCK SAINTS 47 The Citywide Ballers had to hold on for dear life, surviving several Boondock shot attempts and tip-ins the waning seconds, and escaped with a 48-47 victory. Jay Johnson scored 12 points and Stacy Golden, Sr. added 11 to lead Citywide. Brian Marsh led all scorers with 16 points to pace Boondock, and Marcus Gregory chipped in 15 in the close loss. Box Score
MEN'S B - EASTERN CONFERENCE
TEN MEN STRONG 62, TEAM RAMROD 35 Ten Men Strong quickly dug out of an early hole, using a 13-1 run to end the first half, and they blew by Team RamRod 62-35. The duo of Doug Hartwill and Calvin Anderson did the bulk of the damage, scoring 18 and 16, respectively. Brad Morrison paced Team RamRod with 11 points, but they had no answer for the transition game of Ten Men Strong. Box Score TEAM ENVY 47, TEAM ROC 40
A big early lead gave Team Envy the cushion they needed, as they had to hold off a furious rally from Team Roc, but did so to win 47-40. Clarence Lewis led the way for Team Envy, scoring 13 points. Team Roc was ice cold early, only managing one field goal in the first 18 minutes of the game, but battled to get as close as four points in the closing minutes. Kevin Finley led Team Roc with eight points. Box Score DEATH FROM ABOVE 98, GOLDEN KNIGHTS 64 It was same story, different night for Death From Above as they pounced on the Golden Knights early and cruised to another blowout win, 98-64. Omar Shands and Levi Osby scored 23 points apiece to lead DFA. Lee Small (17 points), Shane Burnette (13), and Jeb Melton (10) also were in double figures. The Knights were short-handed, but it wouldn't have mattered. Jeff Gill scored 22 to lead the way for the Knights in the loss. Box Score BALLERS, INC 72, RICK JAMES BATCH 69
A great back-and-forth game was decided by a 14-0 run midway through the second half that built a lead for the Ballers, and they survived to beat Rick James Batch, 72-69. Rashad Winston led all scorers with 28 points, and the Ballers also got big scoring contributions from Barry Mallory (14), Deron Seward (13) and Fred Rousey (13). Rick James Batch went on a 10-0 run of their own to cut the lead to three points with four minutes to play, but got no closer. Jermaine Hargrove (25 points) and Jordan Cordi (20) led the scoring production for Rick James Batch. Box Score
MEN'S B - WESTERN CONFERENCE WILDCATS 38, REBELS 30 Scoring came at a premium, but the Wildcats did enough to keep the winning going, defeating the Rebels 38-30. James Lipski scored 10 points to lead the way for the Wildcats, who held the Rebels to just 12 second-half points. Adam Light had a game-high 12 points for the Rebels. Box Score MAGIC 53, THE SECOND COMING 41 The Magic doubled up The Second Coming in the first half, and they maintained a comfortable lead throughout to win 53-41. John Rosenstock led all scorers with 17 points, and Taylor Hilton added 11 for the Magic. The Second Coming was paced by Daniel Strait's 13 points. Box Score FLESH LIGHTS 64, CHEMTREAT, INC 55 The Flesh Lights used a balanced attack to hold off Chemtreat, 64-55. Drew Snyder (14 points), Gordon Gasper (11), and Will Patterson (10) were all in double figures for the Flesh Lights. Chemtreat had a couple hot hands - Covian Lanier poured in a game-high 26 points and Chris Cook added 19 - but they weren't able to keep up with the Flesh Lights. Box Score LONGHORN MCLOVINS 52, AND 2 41 The Longhorn McLovins were seemingly in control the whole way, and they were able to get a sound double-digit win over And 2, 52-41. Longhorn was led by Len Hinds 13 points. Drew Walker and David Conley scored 10 points apiece in the win. Tony Ogunware was the only And 2 member in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Lower the Rim held around for most of the game, but L Box and One eventually pulled away and earned their third victory of the season, 55-47. Anna Prillaman led L Box and One with 17 points, while Keith Harvey added 16 and Kevin Harvey chipped in 10 in the win. Cory Lail's game-high 31 points and Billy Hertz's 14 accounted for all but two of LTR's points in the loss. Box Score TITANS 58, KNIGHTS 52/OT Forty minutes wasn't enough for the Titans and Knights, and it was Narissa Suber & Michele Cosel who proved to be the difference in overtime to give the Titans the 58-52 win. Both teams exchanged empty possessions in the closing minute of regulation forcing the extra time. Suber poured in 19 and Cosel had 18, carrying the offensive load for the Titans. James Robinson paced the Knights with 14 points. Box Score CHUCK NORRIS 50, WENDY'S ALL AMERICANS 49 Chuck Norris made enough plays to win a back-and-forth battle over Wendy's All Americans, 50-49.
